Bad breath in an older dog

Tackling the Issue of Bad Breath in Senior Dogs - HiDREAM

Persistent bad breath deserves a veterinary dental check, even if your dog still eats and plays normally. Problems below the gumline may not be visible at home.

Notice more than the smell

Tell your veterinarian about changes in chewing, drooling, red gums, reduced appetite or discomfort around the mouth. Do not force a painful mouth open.

Build a home routine

Ask for a brushing demonstration and use toothpaste intended for pets. Your veterinarian can advise on suitable dental products and whether professional treatment is needed. Chews and breath fresheners do not replace an examination.
